Default Hot water bypass mod on an '03?

Ok, here's the tech question of the day. Mine is an '03 Edge with the 3.0 FFV engine. There are a pair of taps coming off the heater hoses that run to a loop around what appears to be the PCV valve on the aft end of the left valve cover, just behind the intake tubes.

My manual is a little vague on all of this. I know of the hot water bypass mod on the older Rangers, but haven't heard of any being done on newer models. I'm guessing that the hoses are there to heat or preheat the PCV valve, so will there be any adverse effect if I remove them? Going to be doing a coolant change soon, so some info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Those lines probably go to your throttle body. A lot of vehicles have them to prevent icing in certain climatic conditions. Both of my vehicles have this.

Mike, the hoses go to a horseshoe tube around the PCV valve, and they are there to prevent the valve from icing up in cold weather. But, it's nearly 100 degrees here now, so I don't think I have to worry about that for a while...

Disconnect them and install a union until you need the anti icing feature then. If memory serves, that is some where in the sub 70 degree range. The venturi in the throttle body drops the temp to freezing at about that temp. Of course, the concern is if there is high humidity too...
