What is this knob?!?!
I spent several hours last night looking at pics of CAIs and MAFs, I can't find another picture of this knob. I just bought this truck about a month ago and I didn't think to ask about this when I bought it. I'd like to research it a little to see if it may affect my gas mileage or performance. To me, it appears to be some kind of adjustment knob for the MAF...? Any ideas?
Close up of the unknown knob.
Wired to these switch looking boxes on the firewall.
Connected to the MAF on the CAI.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: What is this knob?!?!
Possibly one of those MPG gimmick deals some one bought.
I have never seen one before.. Like you said looks like you can control the air flow on the MAF
If your truck is running and you adjust the knob what happens?

Re: What is this knob?!?!
I set it on "low" from about the mid-point a couple days ago and I can't really tell a difference... It almost seems like the exhaust is a tiny little bit quieter, but that's probably physchological.

I may very well end up removing it...but I'd like to know what it is first.

Re: What is this knob?!?!
It's a variable resistor. Some retard bought it on eBay because someone said "Yoz dis phat bitch giz me the more HP's on my CAI fo sho mos' def". This retard then hacked open the wiring to the MAF and spliced this piece of shit into the wiring. Now with the turn of a knob, you can completely fuck up the readings from this precision sensor. According to the advertising lies and bullshit that caused the retard to install this thing, it increases horsepower, improves gas mileage, and makes girls drop their panties left and right.
Now in reality, it does not increase HP. It does not increase MPG. And certainly doesn't get you laid (though if it did, I wouldn't care about the mileage or HP). The only that gets screwed by this device is your computer as it tries to alter fuel flow for inaccurate air flow readings.
So, remove the mile of electrical tape and see if you can safely unsplice this piece of shit. Chances are the retard who installed it didn't do a very good job and it might just fall right off in your hands. Worst case is you'll need to splice the two ends of the wire together. Do this using a solder and a heat shrink. Once this is done, you will have un-fucked your MAF. This also will not get you laid, but at least you computer won't get fucked either. You're even.
Next time on FRF TV, we'll discuss the uselessness of the aforementioned Cold Air Intake kit, that probably sucks in more hot air than the salesman has in his lungs.

Re: What is this knob?!?!
I just found something similar on my MAF..... this one is wired from one harness to the other with one wire, so just cut it off and splice the wires together?

I was having an idling problem so I went to check the spark plugs saw they were good and then saw this, I took it off and guess what..It idles fine now lol. oh and the kicker is it said warranty void if label removed so i took it off and found a bunch of chinese lmao.

Re: What is this knob?!?!
as for the cold air intake. it does make a differance. i can tell a differance in the acceleration and throttle response.

Unlikely. You think you can feel it because you know the device is there are are expecting an improvement. I GAURANTEE you, if I took it out while you weren't looking, you wouldn't know it wasn't there.
Park it on a dyno and show us it made a difference for REAL. You won't find any.

Re: What is this knob?!?!
One of the shows on the Horsepower block on spike did an episode where they built a gizmo to adjust the voltage reading from the MAF. The idea is for when dyno tuning to optimize your Air/Fuel mixture without having to "tune" your chip. They did find that it works and can even allow greater fine tuning of a tuned chip. Now would I use one? Nah not really

well. i would know because. i know every thing that happens to my truck and who is working on it. and the cold air intake on my wifes truck does make a difference because when i first drove it i did not know there was one on there and i have driven alot of half ton chevys.
