Question about motor mounts

I've been having a lot of problems with my truck that are symptoms of a bad motor mount. I have rough gearing in my transmission when it's cold, and when it's warmed up and the truck gears down, I get sometimes a fairly bad jolting gear shift before I make a complete stop or even a partial one (but it varies in intensity). I'm also getting a problem with my truck vibrating and shaking (kind of like a bouncy vibration?) when I'm driving it, so I'm not sure what it could be, but that is my theory.

Anyways I don't know anything about trucks and I'm not going to try and do this myself, so when I call around mechanics tomorrow, how easy is it to check the motor mounts and around how much should they be charging me to look at them?

I was going to say vacuum modulator, but I think that's just used on older cars, not computer managed cars. So don't listen to me either!

You've noticed some specific symptoms, so that a good start for someone who knows something.

So you're basically saying that it might be a problem with the transmission? I had the torque converter replaced in January actually. The problem is that I can't figure out what to do with all of these problems that I've noticed...it seems like any auto place wants to charge me ridiculous amounts ($100 an hour) just to find the problem.

Could be loss of roll restriction at the mounts. Could be a whole lotta stuff. Even low trans fluid or clogged trans filter.
That's why I offered the overview. I'd read it. It may help it may not, but it's food for thought. It's not to say I know what it is.

How come you needed to get a new torque converter?

The old one was getting stuck and making lots of noises. The check engine light was on too. I had to get it replaced and get new solenoids.

So I'm at a loss here though, I know I'll somehow end up getting screwed out of a lot more money than I should, but if I took it to a transmission place could they check the motor mount and see what else might be causing it? The shaking while driving is just too erratic to seem like it's something like that, but then again the erraticness of it could be the reason it could be that. I wish I knew more about trucks!
