Default Starting Problem - Theft Lock

Having an starting issue not experienced before on any other vehicle. When I turn the key, the engine spins normally, but about 75% of the time it will not start. The theft lock idiot light stays on. If I turn the key to off and then to on and wait for the theft lock light to go off before turning it to on (or remember to do that when I first start it), the truck starts every time.

Has anyone encountered this and fixed it?

Thanks!

Default Re: Starting Problem - Theft Lock

i have a 06 stx and one time i was going to work it locked it self and the little light came on and it faded slow. all i did was unplug the battery. but then also it has done to me twice is the fuel stops going to the engine. it goes into like lock mode. it shakes then turn off. my truck has that little button under the glove box to turn it on or off in case of flipping the truck. im curious about to whats going on.

This is an old thread, but the problem seems to be resolved. Although the starter cranked at the same speed it does now, and voltage was good when I was having the problems noted above, the 8 year old battery finally gave up this spring. Went downhill fast, and went from cranking fine to dead in a week. Still pretty good for an 8 year old battery. Since I have replaced the battery, the Theft Lock starting problem has disappeared. Seems kind of touchy on voltage, as it exhibited the problem for two years before the battery died, but that's the only thing I changed.
