I got one in mine too. Just did plugs, wires, airfilter, cleaned MAF, and oil but still there. I will try IAC. It is not a very noticeable one but just occassionally has a hiccup.

I had a rough idle for about 3 months, but it turned out it was due to a gunked up throttle body.

I have had similar issues with my 02 3.0l automatic , starting with low idle ( around 500 rpm) from the dealer. Sometimes while driving the engine will stutter and the oil pressure gauge goes nuts and gets pinned, put a real gauge in and the oil pressure is fine except when in low idle. I have also changed oil, plugs, wires, and the fuel filter. After that it ran really smoothly for about two weeks.
Suddenly I'm getting cyl 3 misfire codes. They persist to this day, intermittently. I didn't get them for a few months and I bought a K&N drop-in air filter and and took the slack out of the throttle cable, wow it purrs while driving.
About a week ago I looked under the hood and something is misting all over near the AC , but is still gets cool, vacuum lines? I hope it isn't cracks.
More recently I got a missfire and a misfire at startup code, both of which lasted two days
I'm still applying tips from this forum but the codes persist until I can figure it out. It seems like there are many things to try...

I have a 2000 Ranger extended cab 3.0L FF with 119K and about two weeks ago I got the "rough idle". I do not have any starting problems. It seems worse with the AC on and the engine under load. Engine shakes during idle and the 5 speed manual gear shift shakes at idle and under acceleration. The last two days, when I came out to start my truck in the morning it seems normal, but after driving a few miles and parking it for 30-45 minutes to do various tasks when I restart it, the rough idle has returned. At freeway speed it seems normal until I let the speed get slow and then it returns under acceleration load then smooths out again after acceleration. I am thinking it must have something to do with operating temperature. I changed the water pump, thermostat, and put a new radiator in it about three weeks ago. Could this have caused it since it started about one week later? Dash temperature gauge seems normal. It does not overheat etc. Could there be some type of engine heat sensor somewhere??
I changed the fuel filter about two months ago, replaced the air filter, cleaned T B, cleaned MAF, and replaced IAC, and at present time running Sea foam thru the fuel system. Still on the tank for this. Hoping it might clear up when I need to refuel it? I have checked several times for vacuum leak in engine section with spray on Carb Cleaner. Looked at the the EDIS and it seems normal without any cracks etc. So far nothing indicated there. I am thinking about changing spark plugs, but the ones in it only have 19 K on them [I changed out spark plugs and wires at 100K so will hold off a while on this because it does not seem related to plugs . So far I have not received any codes. I have a code reader if I do. I kindly of wish I would get a code so i would have a hint where the problem might be. Any suggestions will be welcomed.
PS: Just wanted to close out my post and advise that after using a tank of gas with Sea form in it my problem has cleared up. At first, in the mornings it would run OK until I made a stop and turned off my engine for a few minutes or so then it would start again shaking and running rough, then at about 1/4 of tank it cleared up all the time. It is running good now. I still do not know what it was, but it went away. Sorry I can not be of more help.

Call me crazy but my ranger has always had rough idle ever since I've owned it. The engine light would always be on for cylinder four and five misfire. You could clear it and it would come right back.

Well this past November I have my truck to my buddy to paint it. I got it back in may I believe and it's gone!! No rough idle, no engine light!!! ( knock on wood)

Newbe here.
I have a 2000 Off-road Flex and had the infamous P0176, replaced the sensor which was rotted out on the bottom with one from a Taurus, then got the P0141 and replaced the DPFE. The codes are gone and the MIL is off but in drive/reverse/m1/M2 I still get a rough idle. New plugs and wires not too long ago.

Yes the condenser cycles and it will drop your idle from 1000 to 8-900. This is natural and healthy for a small v6. However on mine when the compressor shuts off it shoots up to 1400 and when I'm coasting in neutral reaches 3000rpm. Any ideas? I know it aint supposed to do that... Other than that it runs smooth. My idle is high but smooth as silk for a 13yo 180k mile truck!

Default Re: who all has rough idle in a 3.0?

I have a 1998 Ranger 3.0L 2wd sport edition and about a year ago the idle went through the roof.. Every time i press in the clutch the idle shoots up to around 4 or 5000 RPM's. when the truck's sitting there the idles fine, it's only when I'm shifting gears or coming to a stop light that it shoots through the roof.. so after trying just about everything imaginable i gave in and took it to a dealership. Well the first time I took it in they noticed a vaccume leak coming from the upper and lower intake gaskets so we went ahead and replaced them, but instead of fixing the idling problem it became worse!! so about a weak later I found time to bring it back in, this time they wanted to replace the PCM(computer). After replacing the PCM the idle stayed the same, so they put the original one back in. At about this point my truck has the dealerships heads so turned around and shoved up their own asses they decided to call in a Ford engineer.. Well he takes a look at it and still can't come up with an answer. After about another month of bringing it in periodically the best guess they can come up with is either the throttle body needs to be replaced(witch they base this on absolutely nothing lol) or the after market flomaster muffler needs to be replaced with another stock one(because its not giving the engine enough back pressure and the vacuum leak they fixed in the beginning was the only problem all along) but I've had this idling problem for about a year and replaced the muffler 3 months ago, you would think if the muffler was the problem I would have noticed a difference from when I had it installed, right? Honestly I would think that Ford is dicking me around.. but their so curious to figure out the problem they've dropped all labor costs and beg me to bring it in as much as possible. This truck literally has everyone scratching their heads so maybe someone has an idea, there are no vacuum leaks, i've replaced the iac, given it a full tune up, checked every sensor and have pretty much done everything except replacing the dam engine.lol So the stage i'm at right now is to find a throttle body from a pick and pull yard (because they don't manufacture them for 98 3.0L engines) and install it to see if thats the problem...

I've owned my 06 ranger with a 3.0 for over 2 years.it had a little bit of a rough idle.changed the fuel filter, and it helped, old one was original.
about 6 months ago, cleaned MAF,IAC,TB.Don't think they were ever cleaned.
now i clean them every 3-4 months, and give a dose of Lucas upper cylinder fuel injector cleaner. Now it runs so smooth, you can barely tell its running.
i've been lucky so far with no vaccume leaks or other issues.
But what i've done, and will keep doing, keeps it running super smooth.
see ya,old retired guy

Yeah, I am pretty sure many ford engines do this with the A/C compressor. Mine does it. Its weird I know, and I am not sure why Ford designed the system to run this way. I was actually going to start a whole thread about this...

Mine idles smooth, smoother after it warms up fully, but lots of V-6 engines idle a lot smoother. What I hate most is the clickyety-clatter sound the A/C makes when idling with the A/C on and that you can feel the compressor kicking on and off while driving.
