Last night i put bosch platinum +2 plugs in place of the motorcraft plugs that were in the engine on my 2001 ford ranger 3.0 v6 non-flex fuel w/ auto tranny. i bought the truck about a month ago. after i put the new plugs in and doubled checked the tourqe of the plugs and the wires i started the truck up.
started fine and idled fine, actually a lot smoother then before, so decieded to rev the engine in park and when the engine got up to 3000 rpm it started to miss fire and wouldn't rev any higher, did it 2 more times and did the same thing. so i took it out for a drive to see if it would still do it in Drive while the truck was moving and it ran fine and went well over 3000 rpm with no miss fires. Then while moving i put it in Neutral and reved it over 3000 rpm and it was fine then after the engine settled down to idle while moving i tried it again and it would cut out at 3000 rpm
I was wondering if i put in the wrong plugs or if there is a rev limiter on my truck to kept it from over reving in Park or Neutral?
I also never tried to rev it in Park or neutral before i put the new plugs in
