Tires or something else?
I have a 1996 Ford Ranger XLT and I can't figure out what is going on. I got new tires because my old ones were very old and rode very rough, but as they started wearing in, I got a ton of vibrations while driving and kind of shaking like the tires weren't balanced. A bit before that, I started having a problem with my truck idling rough. It has gotten to a point to where sometimes it will shake horribly bad on certain surfaces and speeds (it's the worst between 55-75, but it does it at almost every speed) and I've tried letting off the gas while going down a hill but sometimes it doesn't do it when I do that, and starts to if I step back on the gas. I don't know much about cars in general, so I can't figure out how I can tell what it is. Someone told me to put it in neutral while driving but I'm afraid to do that. Any ideas to what this might be? I can't remember if the old tires did the same kind of shaking but my first thought is no. I got the tires rebalanced under warranty (I got them at Pep Boys) and they're not any better. Should I spend the $40 to have Big O Tires look at them to see if something's wrong with them? I have no idea where to go from here.
