Default Noob with an oil leak

Never posted here but found this board thru a google search. Hope you guys can offer assistance.

I have an 03 Ranger Edge 2WD automatic with the 3.0. Has about 75k miles and has been ~1200 miles/6 weeks since the last oil change (10w-30).

The last few days I've been noticing a bit of oil pooling under the car, about the size of a beer coaster (5-10 tsps?) everytime its parked til it cools down. The dipstick has not shown a noticable decrease since I noticed the leak a few days ago. It only drips when the engine is hot/warm. I made sure the oil filter and drain plug were tight. The oil seems to be leaking from between the oil pan and tranmission. Seems like a rear main seal leak, according to what I can gather from googling around.

Unfortunately I don't have the tools/garage/jack/knowhow to replace the seal on my own. Has anyone tried that Bar's Rear Main Seal Repair additive? Worthwhile? Should I just use a thicker oil (10w-40 or 50) and see how it runs and if the leak stops?

Or should I say fuck it and pay the $500 to have it fixed?

well if its a 2 piece seal than you should be able to drop the oil pan and get the 1/2 of it, then you can push on one end of the top one to get that 1/2 out, then do the process in reverse with lube on the seal to replace it. The thing is im not sure if it is a 2 piece.

I have the same problem as you.
The seal is one piece, and requires the Transmission to be dropped, Flywheel removal, and seal pulled out the rear.
In checking around, the possible cures start with:
1. Change the PCV valve to see if reduced crankcase pressue stops the leak. $3.00
2. Try the BarrsLeak Main Seal Sealer. Can't hurt. Might work? $12.00
3. Pull Trans, flywheel, replace seal. $500.00 if you can find someone that cheap.
4. Live with the leak. FREE
