Default 2001 ranger v6 3.0 litre oil light flickering

ok i left my house last night and noticed my oil gauge was going nuts flickering all over the place then settled on low and engine light came on but since where i was driving couldn't really pull over had to wait till i got to a exit once i got off hwy my truck was making a tapping noise but i checked and there is oil in my truck it has 145k miles on it i tried to drive it back home but it stalled out and would not start back up im wanting to know if it could be oil pump gone bad or could the sensor being bad keep my truck from starting any help would be appreciated

Turn your key on but don't start the engine. If your oil gauge reads zero then
unplug the wire from the sending unit and see if it goes up to three. If yes then oil pressure sending unit is bad.
