I have a 1998 3.0. My oil pressure gauge sometimes clicks up and down rapidly, usually when hot but not sure if that is a factor. (I replaced the oil pressure switch but no luck fixing it) Usually when this happens it is accompanied by a check engine light. When I pull the code it is cam position sensor bank A.

Truck starts and runs fine, no issues. I also replaced the the cam position sensor no help. I am out of cheap fixes and not sure where to go next. It also seems odd that these two seem to happen together because from what I understand (which is very little) they dont have anything to do with each other.

Did you change the whole assembly or just the sensor at the top? I think the shaft also turns the oil pump. It may be skipping and not pumping oil!

Thanks, I just changed the sensor, I ordered the synchronizer because no one had a motorcraft and it will
Be here Friday. I didn’t realize it also drove the oil pump so hopefully it will fix both issues.

Alright, I replaced the camshaft synchronizer and that fixed my cel issue. Now I just gotta figure out why the oil gauge is jumpy after warm at idle.
