Question heavy duty radiator question

Hey guys,,,,

I hate a vehicle that runs hot... so , being a retired locomotive engineer, I prefer to use the rail road method, by installing a big radiator and then controlling engine temp with the thermostat...
I am on my third ranger and with the last one I installed a double core but I cannot remember what it was supposed to fit instead of my little ranger....
Gotta be some of you guys that knows what I need to order... I have a 2000 xlt ,, 3.0 with factory air,, engine driven fan,, auto trans... trailor towing pkg...
I would think that one of the big 6 cyls. with the same specs would use a double or triple core... help ol Doc out folks...

Your transmission needs a better cooler way more than your engine does. To be honest even in 110 degree desert heat if the engine is overheating there is something wrong. You can throw a bigger radiator at it but the problem will still exist (unless the issue was a clogged radiator).

But to actually answer your question, the 3.0 and 4.0 use the same radiator. There is no direct bolt in option for a larger radiator. You have the biggest radiator ford made for that truck so anything you use wil be from a different vehicle and need some customizing to fit (im not aware of any direct swaps). You can remove the clutch fan and use a more powerful aftermarket electric fan though.

Who says yours is running too hot? do you have a summer thermostat in there? Do you tow a lot in heat?

actually, no body said the truck is running hot... not even the truck,,,, I just hate a vehicle that does.... so I take measures to see that it does not happen.....
I found a all aluminum 3 core on line that I can make work by trimming my fan shroud some like I did before . then if it starts showing any excess heat, at all... I will know to start hunting the problem ... prevention is the name of the game....
