Default Timing help

So recently I changed the timing chain on my motor. Everything was fine before then, I just thought it’d be best to take some preventative measures by going ahead and changing it being the truck has never had any kind of service to the timing chain. Upon buttoning everything up and giving it a crank, it starts but there’s a serious popping noise coming from the intake, valve cover area. Again, everything was hunky Dory before performing the replacement. I’m afraid I may have done something to affect either the crankshaft or camshaft position when doing the install. What can I do to get this thing back in time and synced up?

your timing is not set properly.. pull the cover off again and line it up correctly! timing chain should last the life of the motor also.. belts need to be replaced chains don't!

Well call me damn stupid lol. I thought I was doing some preventative maintenance but turns out I’m just digging myself a dang hole. I’m afraid messing with all those things involved with the timing I may have set the cam synchronizer off. Got the tool to align it properly on the way and will work on it tomorrow.

Please let us know what you figure out. I had the same thing done on mine, and it hasn't been the same since. Runs ok, but doesn't sound right!

I will definitely post a follow up. When I went to check the synchronizer, as I bought the installation tool that helps line the synchronizer properly, I was feeling behind the upper intake and felt that one of the rubber gaskets (the one on the back side of the intake manifold, lower portion that is between both heads) was out of place, meaning one half was where it was supposed to be and the other side was just all out of what causing a huuuge HUGE vacuum leak. Surprisingly the dang thing even ran with a leak that large. Being the synchronizer is already out of its spot I can’t put it back and see if the gasket is what the problem was. I will fix both of em tomorrow and we’ll see how it all goes but I will definitely keep you updated and I’ll let you know what I did and maybe it can help you out!!
