Question Oil pressure issue

My '03 Ranger has 148k on the odometer. The past few mornings, after driving for about 10 minutes, my oil pressure gauge will flutter and drop to zero. It will jump back up to good, especially if I hit the accelerator and get above 2000 rpm, but with braking and dropping RPMs (i.e. slowing at a stop light), it will drop again. However, in the afternoons on my way home from work, I don't have a problem with it at all, regardless of the length of my commute or how I drive. This has led me to believe it has something to do with the colder morning temperatures (it's been in the mid to upper 30's the past week when I go to work).

Of course, I double-checked the oil levels, and they have been fine. The first time this happened, I did top off the oil level, as it was 2/3rds full (between Max and Min).

I'm going back and forth between one of two possible culprits: The first would be a bad oil pressure sensor. The other thought is some engine sludge possibly goobering up the inlet, in which case I may be wise to run a bit of SeaFoam into the oil. Heck... for $15 for the sensor, I might be ahead by just doing both?

The oil pressure sensor is not actually a sensor, its a switch. It simply has an on/off function but ford decided to use it with a gauge for some unknown reason. When the switch is on the gauge reads normal when the switch is off it reads low. So more than likely the "sensor" is bad.

This topic has been discussed several dozen times.
Replace the sensor.
