Default Leak question

So I know I have a leak. Originating from the typical rear main/oil pan area.

How high internally is the oil level in regards to the rear main when engine is off?

Iím wondering if the oil pan is just leaking; the rear main or both

2003 with 3.0 and 188k miles.

Guessing with the engine dead the oil level would be around 4 to 6 inches below the lower part of the seal. And the leak could be up above, just behind the intake on the passenger side, that's where the sending unit is.

Best thing to do would be to brake clean the best you can and drive it a day or two. Thatíll eliminate the guess work.

Perfect info. Thanks

Iíll check into the intake area.

I knew of the leak. Waited for 24 hour after last trip, Degreased the entire area and it sat for a week and the puddle still showed up. Which tells me the leak could just be oil pan as the engine had been off for a while and oil level is below the rear seal.

Size of leak is size of cell phone in one week. Not major but still a leak.

Is there a specific spot on passengers side to look for sending unit leak?

Is my logic off?

Check your PCV valve first. If the PCV valve gets plugged up, crankcase pressure can build, causing leaks in any wear areas such as old seals or old gaskets.

Great point. I bought this truck to be the spare cabin donut getting jet ski hauling gas station running cheaper than a golf cart truck. So I donít mind putting a little money into it to keep her alive for a year or 10.

I think I might have solved my leak issue.

Changed the oil and filter and found the filter very loose. Like a three year old with oily hands could have loosened the filter.

New filter on tight and test drive with no puddle.

LOL that would do it. I changed a fram on my 05 once the seal ring on the filter stuck to the block when I changed it, of course I didnt notice and screwed the new one on top of it and fired it up, 5 quarts of brand new mobile extended life all over the driveway. I was madder than hillary clinton when they didnt rig her ass into office.
