Default 3.0 compatibility by year

i have a cracked block in my 03 3.0 2wd and have the opportunity to get a 98 ranger 3.0 totaled with four wheel drive, will the blocks interchange first thing?, or can i use the whole engine? belief the trans are the same and thinking about going all the way and using the 4 wheel drive.

unless your ranger is an edge, you will need to do a full frame swap as well if you want 4wd, physically the motor will drop right in but the electronics could be different, the other thing is where is that totaled ranger hit? depending where and how it was hit i would want nothing to do with that truck

I believe that the exterior of the block is the same throughout the years for RWD. There were many internal changes, but that doesn't matter. You will most likely have a mismatch with the connector for the coil pack. The way the coil bolts to the manifold is different and your old coil won't bolt up to the "new" engine manifold. The engine mounts for an auto trans are different than a 5 speed.
I did an engine swap (cam synchronizer failed) on my '99 5 speed with an engine from a '01 auto. Used the original engine wire harness. Swapped intake manifolds so the '99 coil would bolt on.
Take a look at this:http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2004...-ford-3-0l-v6/
