Timing chain questions and options
Short backstory.... Original engine 3.0, syncro, need I say more? Short block, heads gone through, 1.8 rockers, morana "b" cam (think I got a c, or the most aggressive). Had to replace syncro, replaced syncro again a year later (oil filled).
So, come to this past Thursday. On my way home from work, hit passing gear getting on the highway, and the truck shut off. No warning nothing. Friday after work I scanned it, forget the code but something about syncro being high or open. Removed the sensor, took note of where the tine was, turned the engine over. It appeared it didn't move. Boss showed up, I asked him to turn it over while I watched it. It didn't move. SWEET!!! Easy fix. Removed the syncro, no wear, no missing teeth, spun by hand, no binding.... Oh f***. Boss came back out, I watched the cam shaft, had him bump it (knowing now no oil pump), cam didn't turn.
Knowing this now, 2 things could be broke. Timing components (gears, bolts, or chain).... Or the cam shaft. I don't think the cam would break. Is there something that I could be missing?
So what are my options for a timing set? I see morana has a double older for $300 bucks. In my opinion, that seems high. 400 for the 1.8 rockers was high when I found out what they were and fit.
Is it worth pulling my hair out looking for a double roller kit? Is there a single roller kit? Should I just spend the 30-70 for a stock replacement?
I'm just doing research before I pull everything off to find out what it actually is. I am by no means easy on my truck.
