Default Engine stumbles with acceleration at low rpm

04 stick shift, 130,000 miles. Changed plugs and wires. Same problem. When I accelerate at low rpm, I get several stumbles. Once I reach 2500 rpm or so, it will run smooth and pull hard all the way up. Any ideas on fixing this? Thanks....Tom

Wow, over 70 reads and not a single idea. I replaced the spark plugs on principle which had no effect. Next, I added a can of Sea Foam. Problem still there. Then, I replaced the fuel filter that is located on the frame. Still no joy. Hoping for ideas of where to go next............Tom

I assume your map is ok and you have cleaned it. Air filter good. Would scan motor . Probably lean running issue.fuel pump. Vacuum leaks. Intake manifold gasket leaks. Cracked heads. I assume your plugs looked normal. A really bad timing chain would cause this but you would hear it rattle if that was the case. Good luck

Thanks bjurke for the reply. I don't think the 04 ranger 3.0 liter has a MAP sensor. Instead it has a MAF, which is behind the air filter. It looks clean, as does the air filter, and I am not seeing a "check engine" light like I would expect with a bad MAF sensor. The plugs looked very good when I replaced them. It really runs great. It starts and idles good and performs well in all aspects of service with that one exception; a hard acceleration at low RPM will produce a couple of stumbles. Once the RPM picks up a little, you can floor it and it will respond flawlessly. Very puzzling. I can't imagine this being a serious issue like a cracked head or even a vacuum leak when it runs so well in most operations. I guess you are right and that I will have to get a scan performed. I tried to get the auto parts store to scan it, but he said that it takes a sophisticated scanner to get any info when you don't have a check engine light on. Reluctantly, I guess this will mean a trip to the Ford Dealer soon. Appreciate your thoughts......Tom

Wow!! it took them about 15 minutes to nail down my problem. Miss-fires on #3 cylinder caused by a faulty coil pack. $100 for the decoding work, and another $140 for the new coil pack. I'm happy though. It runs like new!! What a terrific little truck, and I really like the Ranger Edge with it's torsion bar front suspension. Why that simple and most reliable system is not more popular is beyond me. Thanks for everyone's help.....Tom
