My synchro failed at 50mph at the highway without any simptom except for the oil gauge, no noise or anything else for about three miles, then the engine went off and this is what I found. Rod bearing number 5 stucked to the journal.
Everybody says that the shaft has to be removed, but guess what, when I was a jounger fella, we use to see this kind of damages and repair them without removing the engine, so thats what I did. Look at the alluminum stucked to the journal. Image number 1, image number 2 after filled, the rest is after polishing So I removed the alluminum with a medium and fine coarse files. After that I polished it with wet sand paper,320,400 and 600 grit usin a shoe laze.
Then installed tri metal King Bearins standard size. This kind of bearings has copper, alluminum and silicon which helps to polish the journals(that is what they say). Installed a new synchro. Removed the groves from the lower intake manifold, I expect to get a newer composite upper intake and mustang roller rocker but that will be later on.
And my beloved Ranger is back on the road

Flushed every hole with brake cleaner, air and primed with oil, no slag went tru it, all melted material spreaded to the side. Oil comes out of the hole then falls to the oil pan.
