Default Why does my 3.0 die on deceleration with low fuel?

97 ext cab 3.0 2wd
New fuel pump and o2 sensors done today, and within last 6 mos i replaced all other sensors except idle air control and throttle position sensors. CEL is still on but the only remaining codes were for upstream o2 sensor so im waiting for it to go off. Also installed rebuilt driveshaft today so its running strong and smooth but i now have absolutely no idea why it still dies when i come to a stop if fuel is at 1/4 tank or less. It doesnt stall or studder at all with more than 1/4 tank. I thought the new pump would certainly fix it but it made no difference so now i have a spare used fuel pump. The fuel tank vent hose is properly routed and not kinked. If i can fix this last nagging issue i can finally be done under the hood and move on to body work. Please someone reply with an easy fix!!! Thanks guys

What fuel pressure are you running?

Also, if a tank with more fuel in it stops it happening, it sounds like fuel surge, which doesn't really make sense.

I dont know what fuel pressure i will have to get a gauge. There are no visible leaks and its all stock btw. I keep going back to the fuel level which would isolate the problem to the tank assembly but i dont know what else it could be unless the pump itself isnt long enough so it cant reach the bottom of the tank....i am going to measure my old fuel pump and compare to how deep the tank is tomorrow after work but other than that, i am out of ideas

I'm thinking low fuel might be a coincidence and you have an IAC issue. Idle air control is not a sensor it is actually a little servo motor that allows more air in when it is applicable.

ALSO if someone has messed with the throttle body they might have set the base idle too low (I've seen this, people putting a TB back on after cleaning on a cold day, messing with screws they shouldn't). If that is the case then the IAC replacement will not do much.

Interesting. IaC is pretty cheap so i will throw one on and see what happens. I did clean the TB when i replaced the MAF but just wiped it out with carb cleaner so i think/hope i am good there. Thanks a lot for the idea. I will let you guys know in a couple days
