I have a 1998 extended cab 2 door with a stepside bed. Are all filler necks universal? If not, any idea what length neck or even part number I need? Thanks for the help. Advanced auto has one near me and their site says it fits, but I've learned to be cautious about this.

Filler necks are not universal. Just replace the outer filler hose on my 95 stepside and filler assembly is different than yours.

It you can get under the truck and check out the tube in place. It will give you an idea of size & type. Use a tape measure if you can.

You may have to lift the bed to get to remove & replace the filler neck.

Also if you are not doing this right away go to rockauto.com. Price is much cheaper.

buy it from rockauto it save you a hundred dollars I just did this to my 97 2 days ago and while I had the bed off I put in a new fuel pump. no they make them for regular bed and stepside

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting one at advanced auto with coupon and it fit. It was easy enough to install without removing the bed or anything. Only bad part was the hose clamps were completely rusted, so I ended up using a pair of vice pliers and broke them loose. All said and done, $100 and 30 minutes of work and an hour drive after enabled me to get it inspected and passed.
