Default Hand hit ignition while in reverse. Truck shut off. Hasn't started since.

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT six cylinder 3.0 with 159,892 miles.

Last night as I backed my truck into my driveway, I reached for the gear shifter (on the steering column) to put it in park. But my hand slipped off the shifter, hit the ignition switch (where the key goes), and the truck immediately shut off. Since then the vehicle will not start. Everything lights up as it should but I only get a loud click from the driver side of the engine. BTW, it is a new ignition switch that was just installed back in late October. Link to video of attempt to start truck:

Could it be that I hit the ignition so hard with my hand that I damaged it? (but the switch seems to be working fine: dash lights and radio works)

I did a some Googling and it was suggested that I turn the steering wheel, and or jiggle the gear shifter. (neither of those worked.)

It was also suggested that I remove the housing around the steering column and jiggle the inner works. (I have not done this.)

Another suggestion was replacing the neutral safety switch. ( I have not tried this yet.)

Does anyone have any experience with this issue or have a possible solution? Thanks in advance for your help.

Turn the mey on and shift tranny into neutral and try to start it. If that doesn't work put it back in park and try again. Let us know what happens.

When you hit the key, did it actually turn the key? Or you just bumped it and the truck died? Another thing, if you turn the key on, can you cross connect the start solenoid to make it start? Who installed the new ignition switch? Maybe something was left loose and come undone?

I've been trying that all day -- with no success.

I'm fairly sure that when I hit it, the key turned. But I am not positive.

I'm not familiar with how to cross-connect/solenoid etc.

I installed the Ignition Lock Cylinder eight months ago back in late October. It had functioned perfectly with no problems until i hit it last night. And for all I know it still is functioning perfectly.

Turns out the problem was the starter. (Very weird considering how this happened.) Nevertheless, replaced and it fired right up. Thanks for all the help.
