Default 3.0

im thinking about buying a 1998 ext cab 2wd with the 3.0 automatic. i know in the taurus the 3.0 wasw good little engine but i dont know to much about the 3.0 in a ranger. ive owned 2.3 and 4.o rangers and really liked both motors. so how well does the 3.0 perform in a ranger?

I've got a 3.slow. About the power of a 4 cylinder, and the mileage of the 4.0, but, it's a solid engine. Keep the oil changed and maintenance up, and it'll last a long time. I like mine really, but I don't expect to set any land speed records either.

I love my 3.0. Other than replacing my water pump at around 91,000
miles.I've had "0" problems.It never overheated.
It gets me thru pesky yellow lights, and out of the way of a-hole drivers, when I have to punch it.
I change oil every 3000 miles, with full synthic oil, also give it a dose of Lucas
upper cylinder, fuel injecter cleaner, every other fill up.
It runs super smooth, can't hardly tell engine is running.I know I over do it
but my 3.0 runs great !!
see ya,old retired guy

I like the 3.0L engine in my Ranger, decent 20 MPG average. Not sure why it has the nickname 3.Slow, its not a GT Mustang but it isn't slow by any means, at least my ranger 3.0 ain't.
