Default "Step-on plug"??

I'm going to pick up a camshaft synchronizer today. My question is what is a "step-on plug". The cam sync comes either with or without. Anybody have experience with this?

You need to look at your Cam Synch connection plug. I believe there is the "step Up" style and the "straight Style". If you purchase the cam synch with the step up style connection it should still work if you have the straight connector but not visa versa I believe.

Update: my '06 3.0 is w/o step-on plug. So I've replaced the cam sync, plugs, wires, alternator, and fuel filter. That said, the truck is still idling rough, hesitating, under powered and stumbling at 50+ mph. I've done a little searching of the forums, and I'm still wondering what to do to make it run right. Head gaskets? Coil pack? Other sensors? Any ideas are welcome...

And the CEL light isn't on? Verify the CEL light works? Do you have access to a code reader? There could be pending codes that could shed some light on the problem?

CEL is on, sometimes flashes during a "stumbling" event. I need to borrow my buddy's code reader.

Flashing not good. On steady not as serious. You should resolve this asap. Continued driving while flashing means you could cause some more problems that I'm sure you don't need or want. People on this site are pretty good and know a lot of things and are willing to help but they need viable information from you to do so. Every little detail counts sometimes.

Thanks for the input. I'll update once I get some codes.
