Default Lower intaket gasket trouble shooting

Hi there, I have a 2000 3.0L Flex Fuel Ranger. Have been getting low power and small amounts of coolant in the exhaust, so I figured it was a head gasket. When I started taking the engine apart I discovered that the lower intake gasket had signs of failure. I decided to just replace that and hope for the best. I replaced the gaskets and put it all back together, and it fires right up. But, there's a strong sulfur odor and it seems to be running rough. Could that be the new gaskets or rtv sealant cooking a bit? And for the roughness, timing maybe? On this particular engine you have to remove the pushrods from the #3 cylinder to get the intake manifold off. Could the roughness be from the pushrods being reinstalled improperly?

Thanks for any advice!
