Re: Easy mods
Get a quality programmer is your best bet to improve the 3.0L without spending a whole lot of money. Even still a good one will #300-500 bucks. Or you can get a tuned to your truck performance chip dialed into you ride which will help as well. I suggest not to go cheap and get the "Jet" chip. Have read a lot more bad about them than good. I suggest www.bamachips.com. You can do some little of this and a little of that here and there, but if you want serious performance you have to pay much money. Turbo, blower, more intake work porting out, bigger throttle body, bigger MAF sensor, headers. gearing and so on.

LOL - Cold air and exhaust don't increase your horsepower.
The state of California does not like you modifying your vehicle. Move to an anti-epa-nazi state if you want to increase your horsepower.

Re: Easy mods
Since they joined up with American performance they push their Mustang products. They have always been a Mustang site but do a real good job for the 3.0. Many guys have there tunes and custom chips done for them there. Just give them a call or email and tell them what you are trying to do and these will help you out.

Re: Easy mods
302+aluminum heads for $700=good deal! If the block is shot the heads are still worth the money even if you have to rebuild them. Copy and paste this link to your browser and take a gander at the cost of aluminum heads.

Has this engine been sitting very long without being turned over? has it been stored inside a garage, vehicle, outside under a tart, etc.? Does it turn over with spark plugs out by a socket wrench? Can you see if there is rust in the cylinders? Is there oil in it, if so is it murky whitish brown that can be a bad sign about the condition of the block. Perhaps cracked, or a cylinder head may have a crack in it allowing cooling to get into the oil. If the guy who has it will let pull the heads would be best and you can spend a little dough on them and get em tested. That would give you some idea of the shape the block is in too. If you can pop off the oil pan and look for rusty stuff to be cleaned up. If it were me I would do these things and decide whether or not I would rebuild it, or just find another block somewhere. 302 parts aren't as expensive as 3.0L parts and blocks are all over the place. Is there an intake on this motor? Carburetor, fuel injection stuff there?

Did anybody else realize that this thread is supposed to be about "easy mods". Someone just trying to increase engine output - how did we get involved talking about engine swaps? 999 out of 1000 threads like this and only 1 out of 1000 actually have a swap.

Re: Easy mods
My bad JP. I shoulda referred Puckett over to a forum that addresses this topic about engine swaps better. I plan on doing a swap within a year 460cubes in an 01 edge for the track. Good price for some heads though.
