4x4 trying to lock in going down road

I have a 1998 4x4 Ranger that has been converted to Manual locking hubs that sound as if they are trying to lock in while I am going down the road loud horrible noise. This only happens when I hit a bump. take half a mile or so to go away. But seems to not do it as much when the hubs are locked in. The 4wd solenoid is no longer connected from what I can tell no vacuum or anything just the wires. Jacked the truck up tried to move the wheel everything seems tight. Any ideas? Thanks

Make sure the hubs are completely unlocked(turn them a few times) and make sure they greased good.

Are you sure that it is the hubs?

Have you checked the wheel bearings and other things also associated with that area of the truck?

I am sure the hubs are unlocked.

I will put it back in the air tonight and pull the wheels but I did do a quick shake of the wheels everything felt tight.

I am leaning towards worn half shafts where they meet the needle bearings at the point maybe enough were it is bouncing around in there.
