Default Modified 3.0

Has anyone built up a 3.0 ? Over size pistons, cams, bolt on options?
Why?
Just because.
Thanks.

I did a mild build stock bottom end but got high ratio rocker arms. And headers and dabbled with boost for about a month. Did it because it was my first car and all I could afford. Also not legal to go to a small block in my state because of emissions. So played around with what I had.

I'm thinking this spring, tearing my 01 3.0 down n freshen up long block.
It runs fine. Can't hurt.
I'm looking at some port work mainly on exhaust side, cat back exhaust but still quiet.
If it pulled a little harder in 3rd gear, I'd be real happy. Lol.
Its not bad now, but figured, gonna have it all apart, may as well experiment.

Parts are the hard part. Looks up rogue performance he has some good tech articles and also Tom Morana racing has several parts for the 3.0 I think he even has stroker kits for the 3.0 not sure if it will help at all.

Yeah that's the easiest and cheapest way. I ordered my roller rockers from Tom they came in Harland sharp packaging direct from them so it's decent brand stuff just milled to spec for the 3.0. Not sure who he uses to mill the stroker kits.

I'm trying to justify in my mind, which path to take.
Mine is a 5 speed. I do pull a trailer with it, I use it n drive it every day.
I can bore, I can stroke in house.
I've been a naturally aspirated, big cube, with light turbo experience but not in the automotive field.
Thought about a good overhaul n head worked over, n turbo.
As it is now, going thru gears,
And before we start calling out racing, just cause were talking bout a old truck but hey, just a story, just read.
First gear, from 2000rpm up, it'll just spin em off. 2nd, pretty much but not as bad. 3rd, this gear could use 50 more hp to help 4th out.
5th. 2000 rpm at 55. Lol
I'm averaging 25mpg.
It'll take off with loaded trailer from dead stop n go with it. The 5 speed helps me keep good control loaded.
So, not really a racer, more of a working sport vehicle.

Same for me I always loved the lightning bolt concept ranger and since a v8 was out for emissions I chose to build mine. The 3.0 will respond well to a turbo. It's rev happy by nature and that cast iron block and heads can tale some abuse. It also has a very capable oiling system so a turbo should be no issue. Also the biggest issues with boost is cooling. Injectors that will fit a stock rail are very limited and most require splicing in new connectors so superchargers don't do all that well because A no room for an intercooler in the valley and B not a big enough injector to compensate for that non cooled boost. (the issie I had as well as the reason whipple killed their kit). Get a good intercooler setup and you will be golden. Also a centri blower could be a good choice. It will work with most of the stock parts and can be intercooled same as a turbo but has a little more low rpm grunt ( doesn't need to spool as much).

Sorta rogue covered it on his site. It's possible but it requires a ton of machine work and homemade parts. Boost is by far your best bet. Add that with port and polish on the had and intake and Tom Morana sells a reground Cam for the 3.0 as well as the roller rockers since no one makes an aftermarket Cam for them. He also has a sweet looking Boss intake for the 3.0 would look great with your turbo setup and have a decent flow improvement too.

Local pick and pull here always has them. I see them in the yards a lot from wrecked trucks.

Found a 02 3.0 for 250. Torn down for unknown reasons, then did v8 swap.
