Default Bank 1 Bank 2 lean code

Hey guys. I have a 2001 Ranger 3.0l with 1903000 miles. Today check engine light came on. test said 2 codes. Bank 1 and Bank2 Lean.

What do you think it is? Vacuum leak? Any opinions would be great

Check your fuel pressure. my sons silverado had the same thing. Fuel pump bad not supplying enough pressure. or also be a pluged fuel filter. or fuel regulator.

Wow, almost 2 million miles I'm impressed.

Lean codes are an indication there is more air coming in then the computer sensors can account for. This could be a vacuum leak, bad MAF, injector not supplying the fuel the computer thinks it is.
I have a truck that gets this message about once a year. Cleaning the MAF always fixes it. (Although I did have to buy a new one the first time.)

Vac leak possible. Not sure if your truck has that weak PCV elbow as that is a common failure.

Both banks together suggests to me O2 sensor, MAF, or vac leak.

oops not 2 million miles. haha. 193,100.

I cleaned my MAF and replaced my air filter. Unhooked my power supply to reset the computer and code is gone after 100 miles of driving. Kinda started funny a few times but all is good. Thanks guys !

Same Code came back today . I sprayed carb cleaner at the connections of every vacuum and the hoses them selves and motor did not react diffrently.

Going to look into injectors because ive always had this misfire while motor is hot from regular driving. One guy said a while back that knew a thing or two about motors said he could hear the fuel injector missing. Ive replaced the whole fuel pump about a year ago thinking it was the fuel pump. Also replaced the fuel filter about a year.

----------

Any other places i should spray ? Ill check out my fuel pressure soon. Do i check fuel pressure at the rail and before the filter? While its running ?

Check out your intake manifold gasket.

its a chore and a half to pull the gasket. Here's a good write up.
I would have posted one from here but this one is pretty good.

http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=94437

I spray the location of the gasket with starter fluid while running. Should surge if leaking.

Thanks a bunch for the link

Where exactly do i spray i cant seem to find the location where im suppose to spray. near the fuel rail?

Is it safe to drive with the lean codes if it is the intake gasket? Will it burn up my engine?

Thanks again !

Alright whenever these threads pop up all these noobs get on here and start shouting O2 sensors intake manifold and MAF. While in some scenarios that may be true in your case it is not. 95% of the time when I have seen both banks lean CELs pop up at the same time it is the fuel pump. If both banks are lean at the exact time it is very very rarely an air leak. The chance of both O2 sensors going bad at the same time or intake manifold failing on different sides of the engine is almost 0. You say your truck runs bad when hot? Also a sign pointing to fuel pump. I'm gonna go ahead and recommend you replace fuel pump and filter no questions asked. Especially at the mileage on your truck. Don't listen to these other knuckleheads

That's why I suggested he check for a leak before he started pulling it apart

You did exactly what I said. If what he described seems to you like intake manifold gaskets or an O2 sensor then just stop. Testing for those is a waste of time in this scenario.
