Default 2000 ranger 2wd 3.0 engine bogging problems

im hoping someone here can help my truck starts and runs fine at idle has a slight miss but its done that for a couple years now but as im driving i get about a mile down the road and the truck will stick at its current rpm and start dropping it sounds like its not even running when it does this other than the sounds of the coils and injectors if i let go of the pedel it idles right but wont accelerate if i turn the key off then on real fast weather the engine stops or not while its having the problem it runs normal till about another mile down the road ive been dealing with this problem for about 2 weeks now replacing suspect parts so far ive replaced coil pack, wires, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, alternator, inertia switch, ive tested all the oxygen sensors cleaned the mass airflow sensor checked for any vacuum leaks it doesnt leak any fluids i pulled the engine about a year ago tore it down inspecting everything and replaced every gasket i could buy when i did my timing chain and sprockets i have not done any drivetrain
modifications to it everything under the hood is as it was when it was made

but the rpms wont go past 3 and the truck barely makes it to 50 mph since this problem came up i cant figure this out and its driving me insane i thought i knew this truck inside and out till now any help would be amazing

Clogged exhaust? blocked air intake? try with Maf sensor disconnected.

drilled holes in the exaust pipe in multiple areas checked both catalytic converters and the muffler with my endoscope and found no blockages the cats were in great shape plugged the holes and tried running it with the mass airflow sensor disconnected the engine started misfiring like crazy but the engine still dies after a certain amount of time seems to be right when the engine hits operating temperature when idling that it starts bogging

any other ideas man your help is appreciated

I would not have drilled holes in the exhaust system but it's done. I would suspect the MAF as suggested. You can read the MAF with Torque or other scanners. You can also disconnect the MAF as Hammer suggested and if the truck runs better I would replace the MAF. With a properly functioning maf the truck should die shortly after disconnecting it.

Have you checked your cam syncro lately?

FYI : your gas pedal is really an air pedal. When you press it down it calls for air. If the MAF is fubared you will get the result you're getting.

I didn't expect you would drill holes in your exhaust, I am afraid to suggest anything now, Lol. I agree the Torque app (or equivalent) would be helpful as you could look at fuel trims etc. Do you have any check engine lights and or codes? How did you check you O2 sensors? Did you replace all of these parts in an attempt to fix this problem or is it possible you could have introduced some kind of problem. When its cold and you first start it does it run and accelerate normally for a very short time?

thanks for pointing me to the mass airflow now that i think about it when the truck ran good it would stall when the mass airflow sensor was unplugged or when the filter box was opened now the truck doesnt do that anymore as far as the exhaust the holes were only the size of a pencil eraser and are neatly welded shut so they shouldnt be a problem and i replaced all the gaskets/o-rings when i did the timing chain because i dropped a tool in the sump and when i pulled the sump there were aluminum chunks in it nothing had broken that time when my grandfather owed the truck the timing chain cover had broke i think he said the water pump caused it but anyways i pulled the engine to remove all those bits of aluminum and took advantage of the opportunity to fix all the leaks as well as inspect the engines condition when it was all back together it worked fine i did all that just before last winter and i had also noticed an increase in gas mileage then after winter my fuel pump failed so i replaced it and the filter then recently before i noticed the problem i had the truck siting for about 2 months the brake lines rusted through so i parked it for a while occasionally running it to keep the batteries charged the batteries died once so i left truck on the charger when i replaced every brake line brake cylinder and master cylinder i took it for a drive to be greeted with my current problem i dont really mind replacing parts that are just gonna fail eventually anyways today i replaced the bad o2 sensor it had no readings when metered and the check engine light kept popping that sensor up as far as being hot or cold it only seems to make a difference at idle the truck drives the same hot or cold either way if i come to a stop sign i have to shut the engine off and restart it in order to accelerate again i will look into the mafs next here

Sorry you replaced the MAF with improvement. I would doubt the PCM has failed. To me it sounds like an air/fuel problem, maybe a lean mixture. If you have a smart phone I would get a compatible blue tooth OBD2 reader and an app that will read live data, like Torque for example. Then you could watch short term and long term fuel trims and possibly narrow things down. Without some type of diagnostic data your just throwing parts at the problem.

the mass airflow sensor did not change anything im waiting on my new obd2 connector to get here currently my old one fizzled out as for the software i prefer scan xl professional for the job my phone is complete crap so i stopped trying that thing lol and yes i am just throwing parts at it and occasionally wrenches and beers as well lol but most of the parts i am replacing have failed testing and were due to be replaced anyways so i have no regrets in replacing them as i want this truck to outlive me i did notice something interesting earlier after i replaced the blown exhaust manifold gasket i payed close attention to my coolant reservoir i noticed bubbles coming up and that my coolant is getting dirty going from the bright green to a brownish color which could just be rust but the bubbles have my attention im going check for coolant in my oil first off the rent a radiator pressure testing tool to check for leaks as the problem only occurs after the engine has warmed up while idling im thinking on the side of head gasket but i dont want to crack that open if i dont have toa
