Default i need help bad please!!!

skip to the second paragraph if you dont want to hear my sob story!

hey everyone first post. just got a ranger its a 1999 with the 3L. for 3,000.00 i knew it was to good to be true. spent all my money on it drove fine the 200 or so miles from jackson ms. to new orleans where i live. monday when i got insurance and all that im driving down the road and it just locked up it felt like. by the way no check engine light was on when i got the truck.... went this morning to read some codes knowing some had to be on even though there was no light to find out the light was disconected and the fuse was takken out. 13 freeking codes. theres no way 13 codes can pop up in 250 miles... so i got ripped off i figure karmas a biotch though so hell get his..

anyway... i was driving down the road the truck just kind of locked up, not the wheel but it just like slowed down and started puttering. as i gave it gas it hardly wants to go anywhere... i changed all the plugs, wires, coil pack, fuel filter... everything i can think of that might make that happen. the crazy thing is it revs up great in park and neutral, the second i put it in drive it just hardly wants to rev and only goes about 2mph till it gets going.... im thinking that maybe in drive it senses a load and wont pick up cause after about 2 minutes when it starts moving it seems to maintain a steady speed. i have no idea what else it could be my neighbor/mechanic thinks maybe a bad computer or no fuel pressure.......
any ideas? anyone? please help me im in a bad spot and really did not want or need these issues with this truck especially right now. any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks very much
- jeff

What codes did it read? i would check fuel pressure coming out of the tank, then check rail pressure at the injectors. could be a bad or clogged fuel pump (happened to me... f'n sugar) clogged fuel filter, clogged injectors... make sure its getting air though i don't think a dirty filter would cause that much.

did the problem only start when you got down to lower gas levels? if you have things floating around in your tank they're more likely to clog the sock closer to E.

i have about a quarter tank left so i dont think its low enough for that to be a porblem. i thought maybe the fuel pressure so i got hold of a pressure tester so we'll see. one of the codes... the first code it read was the P0176, Which is supposed to be a fuel composition sensor circuit malfunction and i think that could possibly be the problem. does anyone have any idea where this sensor is or what im supposed to do. i read another thread and a guy was kind of having the same problem it seemed so could that possibly be the problem...... another friend of mine who works at a transmission shop says its deff. the transmission.... go figure. but hes honest with me and has always steered me in the proper direction with past vehicles.... so any more input anyone?! thanks alot - jeff

You should also have a speed sensor on your rear end, it is an $11.00 part and will affect your ability to accelerate. It will also affect the shifting of the tranny

the speedo will not work above 45 mph if you have a bad speed sensor. what are the codes

Check the computer for corrosion, actually remove it from the passenger side panel in front of the door and seperate the ECU from the harness. There is a flaw in the ranger's drainage system that directs water down to a corrosion holding point near the antenna actually behind the body panel. This point sits directly over the computer. If the terminals of the computer are corroded then this is the problem with the fuel management system...maybe. It worked for me, i have a 92'. I swapped the computer from a junk yard and siliconed up the cracks after filling them in with "great stuff". Fired it up and it ran like a completely different truck.

it can still be the speed sensor, in park and neutral are fine, rulews out corrosion in the computer. i have had this actually happen, wasn't dreaming up an answer

I will tell you right now that you need to go to the local police station and report his ass for selling you a lemon!! There are lemon laws out there for these types of situations and if reported in a descent amount of time, that person will be fined and have to pay for the damages to the truck and be charged with fraud!! Good luck with the truck, because everything that you have done is what I would have done!! Seriously though, you need to report him, cause I would have just kicked his arse!!!
