Default 2002 chirping noise

I just purchased a 2002 Ranger 3.0 with 100K miles. I noticed when the ac is on and I am driving I hear a chirping noise every 8-10 seconds. If I am idiling with ac on I don't hear the chirping noise. If I turn ac off and continue to drive I don't hear the chirping noise either.

Any ideas?

Check everything around your AC unit to see if something is loose. I had a similar problem and sure enough it was just a loose component making a slight rattle.

On some Fords, the AC compressor clutch will give a metallic chirp each time it cycles on. As you said, this is most noticeable when driving at light throttle above idle. It can be annoying but doesn't seem to hurt anything. Short of replacing it, I don't know of a proven cure.
