Default 94 Ranger loves to leak.

Hey I bought a 1994 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 2WD Automatic for $1700 and it just broke 200k miles. I'm trying to identify what I need to replace or fix in regards to the engine. So I've noticed the where the engine oil cap screws into on the engine is loose and appears to be leaking oil, I haven't seen it leak but there is oil all around it. I can't seem to find anyone else having the problem where it wiggles, I assume the oil fill port (that's the only name I could find for it) is not supposed to move. Also the tube going from the oil fill port to the air intake tube (not sure if that's what it actually connects to but I'm sure you guys know what I'm referencing) came off, I didn't notice a change when driving just noticed it when I was refilling the radiator fluid.

The only thing I found regarding oil leaking from the engine oil cap seemed to be about Blow Back and the PCV valve, but the comments made it seem like there was a lot more drastic oil loss than what I'm experiencing. Also there are no check engine lights but the check oil light was on til I topped it off. I want to stop the leaking before I change the oil and filter again.

On another note the engine oil pan gasket has come out. I have no idea how it happened but it came out towards the front of truck dead center between the two centermost bolts. It looks like the biggest leak on the truck and there is consistently oil dripping. Although it is a very slow drip, I'm wondering if I can just loosen the bolts a bit and slide the gasket back in, it seems to be in good condition.

And I know often you guys will ask about how the spark plugs looked and I changed them along with the oil, oil filter, transmission fluid and transmission filter about 500 miles ago and they looked good. Thanks for any advice you guys have!

Might also help to use oil made for high mileage vehicles.

Ed, I got my 94' about 6 month ago and had the very same issue. The previous owner did absolutely nothing to the truck except putting gas in it, and it was leaking oil from every possible place. I replaced every exterior gasket on the motor....Valve covers, oil pan, oil pressure switch. The oil pan is real pain in a$$ to change. My oil pan gasket did the very thing you are stating that yours is doing...it was made out of some silicone type material. After doing the things I mentioned, there are zero leaks.

I was having oil leak out of my 01 3.0 about a year ago. Not a high volume leak but steady for a while, and couldn't find it. Turned out to be my rear main seal, which after some bad attempted repair at a local shop that no longer gets my business and a good repair at a good shop, stopped all leaks. If your's is still leaking after you replace the exterior gaskets, keep that in mind.
