Default leaking oil pan

i own a 98 ford ranger with a 3.0 v6 in it thats leakin oil everywhere, just today i lost around a quart and am probably gonna lose more overnight, and i was wondering what i can do to fix it, cause it looks like it comes from the front of the engine near the harmonic balancer, and oil has covered the entire front axle and it really pisses me off since i just did an oil change on it about 2 weeks ago, so any help on how i can do this at home and not have to go into a shop would be very helpful, and if i need to i can post pictures tomorrow when i get home.

Can you see part of the gasket working it's way out? Seems to be a common problem around that year of 3.0L. Ford has an updated oil pan gasket. But is a chore to replace... Best to start by identifying if it's the timing cover crank seal leaking, pan gasket, or something else. I'd bet on the pan gasket tho, but make sure you know what needs replaced before you go and replace it.

That sucks man. Most opt to pull the engine out to replace the oil pan gasket. I wouldn't even want to try to do the job in the truck, it is so much easier when it's on a stand. But some do go that route and basically it's almost to the point of pulling the whole thing out anyway. Can't drop the pan low enough to clear the oil pick up tube where it sits.

So it is a fairly big job...

It might slow it up a little, but it's going to go right back to the way it was, so if you try that, be sure to keep a really close eye on your oil level.

I am not real familiar with the 3.0L engine, but you might do some searching around to see if anyone has tried a work around. Seems like a fairly common problem for the 3.0L around that model year.

Best bet would be replacement though. That's a lot of oil to be leakin'.
