His op say his oil pressure is only low when cold but does when its warm. If cam sync was bad the engine would let you know before it gets warm. By the time the engine was to normal operating temp the bearings would be glowing red.

Yes, I would replace the cam sync with that many miles, if it hasn't been.

He has oil pressure, the gauge just doesn't respond immediately upon startup.

If it is the original cam sync then not a bad idea at all to change it but not sure in his case this will fix the oil pressure problem he is having. Cam syncs are easy to replace and an inexpensive health insurance plan for your engine.

I don't see it as camsync. If that were bad seems the pres would not come up at all. I'm sticking with pres sense first then the guage...

It could be the oil pressure sensor, however when doing a proper DX you need to eliminate the most potentially catastrophic issue first. The OP is a novice. He has no history, no Sig. He could be driving a truck with a potentially seized engine at any moment. Oil pressure is not something to guess about!

To elaborate on DJ's answer:

The cam synch has a gear that meshes with the cam shaft. The cam shaft turns and turns the cam synch, which does two things...sets the timing, and more importantly, drives the oil pump.

They are known to have gear failures, which means that the oil pump stops working.

That said, I still think the OP's problem is the pressure sensor, not the cam synch, but it is recommended that the synch be changed every 80k miles, so if it hasn't been changed, it's high time to do it.

I don't have a sig because I use the app and it doesn't let you put sigs. The truck speaks a tad when it's cold but it is only for a few minutes and there are no codes on the truck. And I'm tryin to learn man. Give me a break that I don't know every little thing about engines. Thank you for your imput tho, I am going to stop by the parts store on my way home and get a cam sync, since yall say it should be done every 80k and I got the truck with 100k and don't know the last time it was changed so it can't hurt anything. And the engine is full of oil so it's not deprived.

When was the last time you checked for codes?

Put a stethoscope on the syncro when you start it up. What's it sound like?

I just figured out that "speaks" is "squeaks".

When you hear the squeak put a tube/hose or stethoscope on the cam syncro and see if the "squeak" is coming from the syncro.

squeaks*** and I know motor craft works the best for ford engines. I do not know the last time the cam sync was changed. I use 5w-30 oil like the owners manual says. And I have not checked the codes. But I can get them read. Im sorry I don't know about a lot of this type of stuff. Please don't make me sound dumb just cause I don't know all that you do.

Pal, no one is calling you dumb or making fun of you. We are trying to keep you from blowing your engine. Please answer the oil change questions. I would not wait on checking the syncro. Do it now.
