squealing noise
I have a 2003 ranger with a 3.0. It has the squealing noise of what is usually the idler pulley or a bad belt.I have replaced both of those and it wont stop. Ive tried to spray each pulley with wd40 that didnt help. Also the long metal rod trick didnt work for me either. Im out of ideas any help would be greatly appreciated

Re: squealing noise
Is it coming from the back side of the passenger side of the engine?

Re: squealing noise
I had a belt squeak drive me crazy. Changed 2 idlers, tried 2 different belts. Ended up being the tensioner internal spring itself was weak. Try to put a little more tension on the belt with the tensioner while running and see what happens.

If it's more apparent there then it may be the cam sync. Make sure to change it if it is.

Re: squealing noise
The power steering pump pulley is pressed on. They can move just enough to make the belt not line up. Shops use a laser that fits in the grooves and checks this.

Re: squealing noise
Here's an old Skool trick.
Take your favorite bar soap, you know the kind you shower with, start the truck and apply the bar to the belt as it spins. The wax in the bar will coat the belt and quiet the rubber to metal squeal. My 3.0 has this issue also about once a month I run a dry bar of soap on it and good for another month..

Not the sensor. The camshaft synchronizer. The sensor sits on top of it.

Like the other guys said, it could be the cam synchro, and it does have to be changed asap, stick to Motorcraft,, I haven't driven my truck in 2 weeks, it's scheduled to get a new cam synchro and sensor this Tuesday. If it is the cam synchro its best to go ahead and replace both the synchronizer and sensor
