2001 ford ranger fuel mileage
i have a 2001 ford ranger 3.0 extended cab with 135,000 , im not sure of gas tank size, but i only get 220 miles to a tank, and its a manual and thats the best ive ever got, thats never going above 2500 rpms trying to see the best mileage i can get, Is that good mileage or bad, in my manual it claims to have a 21 gallon gas tank, if not what can i do to improve it?

Re: 2001 ford ranger fuel mileage
220 miles / 19.5 gallons = 11.28 MPG
11.28 MPG = 25 litres per 100 kms
25 Lt/100Kms = 4 kms/litre = INSANE GAS MILEAGE!!!
Are you sure you can run just 220 miles?
My truck (96 V6 3.0 regular cab) does about 8 Km/litre (18.8 MPG) in city and 11 Km/litre (25,8 MPG) in hw, (aprox).
Id say you re throwing money away in gas, your consumption is absolutely crazy man!

Re: 2001 ford ranger fuel mileage
Yeah 220 has been my best, I just refilled my truck today, I got 195 miles to a tank this time, what could be wrong, I just put brand new plugs and wires and air filter and cleaned the mass air flow sensor, idk what else to do?

Re: 2001 ford ranger fuel mileage
Well, i predict a tsunami og messages here.
Which spark plugs did you put? Id recommend to go oem, motorcraft, same deal with the spark plugs wires. Also, id replace the fuel filter. What about o2 sensors? I know old or bad o2 sensors will increment fuel consumption.
Tire pressure? Tire alignment?

+1 on OEM plugs and wires as well as fuel filter. Does your truck run funny at all? Lug, lack power, shudder?

When is the last time you ran an injector cleaner? And just a thought idunno if anyone else can chime in but my gas mileage is night and day between 87 and 91 octane. I know they are rated for 87 but my truck demolishes that. 91 it runs waaay smoother and the fuel literally lasts me 2x as long.

I don't mean to high jack this thread but my truck has the same issue with gas mileage and it does lug and shudder. Any clue what that's about?

It's your imagination. It's not possible.

You have a 4.0 and you hijacked a 3.0 thread. Shame.

[QUOTE="GLH;2377021"] It's your imagination. It's not possible. ----------
Pretty possible... Seeing as i do indeed put the gas in my truck and monitor my mileage.... The grade of fuel can make a huge difference, if we ran cheap gas in our old explorer it would throw a check engine light.

No way you get better gas mileage by using higher octane gas, much less twice the mileage. If that was true, I would always buy 93 octane !

I didnt state as a general rule... This is the first vehicle i have owned that i actually pay for 91 on because it makes THAT much of a difference in it.. I have been confused about it myself to the point i have wondered if it has a tune on it as i bought it used and whoever owned it before me had added an electronic trailer brake module as well. But either way this debate is not going to benefit the OP. Just an idea i tossed out as it works for me.
