Default Help stop the SQUEALING!!!!!

Hello, 99 extended cab with flex fuel 3.0 and 111k. After sitting all winter with fuel pump problems now has a major squealing problem. I searched many hours and came up with a few threads. So today replaced both idler pulleys and the power steering pump (it had lots of play and felt gritty when turned) I checked the alt and replaced the belt and...wait for it... the squealing is louder and at a different pitch. And yes the squealing goes away if I remove the belt so any thoughts? The timing chain and water pump have not been done yet but I've never heard a pump sound like this and there is no weeping and it turns freely. The A/C doesn't work well but the pulley turns freely, the sound is centered and LOUD any thoughts. Thanks!

clean all pulleys with a wire brush and brake cleaner to remove all contaminants and spend the money on a gatorback belt and read my post titled damn squeak gone for now.

I had the same issues. I replaced the tensioner pulley and idler pulley and realized that the chirping was coming from the alternator. I replaced with a new Gatorback belt when I replaced the crank pulley with Underdog. Sound is now gone. Try a Gatorback belt, $30 at Atuozone.

Another solution could be that your tensioner pulley is not aligned. Place a straight edge on your tensioner and see if it aligns to the rest of your pulleys. You may need to shim the tensioner if it is out of alignment.

Thanks for the responces! Cleaned all old pulleys today and the belt is a gatorback. When I ran the motor without it there actually is squealing so I was wrong about that. So now I'm looking towards this cam syncro thing. Is the syncro and the cam sensor the same thing or are they two different parts? Can it be replaced without removing the intake? Are there any special tools needed for this? Any potential other problems? Sorry for all the questions and I'll be searching... searching... . . . . Thanks

The synchro and sensor are two separate parts. Go with the Motorcraft part. I purchased mine from RockAuto. NAPA sells the synchro with the tool so you can buy it to use the tool then return it when you are done installing the Motorcraft.

You can replace without removing the intake. It is back on the passenger side near the firewall. Here is my post from RPS http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...d.php?t=265629 There is a great write up that I reference in my post.

I installed mine without the tool and without finding top dead center. I used my phone camera to record the relative position of the synchro and the trigger. It took less than 1 hour. Any shop that charges you more than 1 hr is taking you for a ride.

Thanks for the help. Got the motorcraft part today and I'm going for it. It's so far down the back I'm not sure I can get my hands back there. Thanks.

Lol you have accomplished what drives most of us completely nuts, the famous 3.0 squeak/chirp. Seems like you fix one squeak just to find another, and another, and another...

Hello out there in Ranger land. I'm a newbie to the forum and became a member primarily to find out more about the cam positioner synchro issue. I have already ppurchased the new part from Ford. I would like to buy the tool but found out it costs anywhere between 30.00 on line up to 50.00 on EBAY.

I was wondering/hoping if anybody out there has the tool - even the one that came with the Napa/Dorman part would work- since this will be a one-time installation. If you have the tool and are willing to loan out- I will pay for the shipping and return the part at my expense. I am located in Glendora california

In reality, you don't need the tool. I didn't use the tool on my truck.

But the tool does make it a bit easier, and keeps you from having to hold it with your finger.

Yes- I saw the how to video on youtube. The gentleman was able to change out the synchronizer without using the tool or even finding TDC. By his own admission, it took him three attempts to get the positioner in the same location as the one he removed.

As you stated, the tool simply makes it slightly easier to install as it helps stabilize the part.

Given the two choices- I'd still rather try and obtain the tool for that reason only. Somebody has to have one in their toolbox as this seems to be a very common issuse with the 3.0
