Ways to get more MPG out of your 3.0L
The first place to start is with a complete tune-up new platinum spark plugs, plug wires, pcv valve, fuel filter, air filter, mass air flow sensor cleaning, throttle body cleaning, egr valve and egr intake passage cleaning, and a sea foam top engine clean treatment. And last of all and the hardest of all to do which I myself am very guilty of is easy on the gas no hard starts or acceleration.I went from 13 mpg to 16mpg with 80% of my driving being around town by changing my plugs and wires, cleaning my throttle body and cleaning my egr valve and passage.I also switched to ngk platinum plugs. And belive it or not I did a complete tune-up 3 years ago which was only 20,000 miles ago.You will need to remove the throttle body to do a complete cleaning of it.I also clean my mass air flow every oil change.I will also be the first to tell you my performance muffler and a tonneau cover didnt do a damn thing to help my mileage. But it does sound and look so sweeeeeet.Which is why I bought them in the first place. My next thing is a injector cleaning and I will keep you posted on the results. As far as i know only being the 2nd owner and the previous owner being a woman that didnt do much maintenance it has 150,000 miles and has never had the injectors cleaned other than running E85 through it.Thats my story so good luck with your search for more MPG.
