The waste spark system on the 3.0 wears down the electrode on one bank of plugs faster than the other. Ford installed double platinums on that side, and single platinums on the other from the factory. To avoid the confusion as to what bank needs what, just do double platinums and be good for another 100k. Otherwise, around the 30k mark, one of the electrode centers on one bank will be eaten away with the single platinums.
Hmmm ... Thanks for this, rangerlocal. I have had the regular Motorcraft Platinums in all 6 for 16-17 months. I will replace soon with double platinums.

Called O'Reilly's, they want $150 for the synchro, SPECIAL order.

Also asked about Plugs, they ONLY showed the Motorcraft Double Platinum SP-432 plugs.
And with the info from RangerLocal along with what I already knew, DOUBLE PLATINUM it is. I am not a fan of them but for the price and ease of replacement in the future it sure ain't gonna hurt to go with what others say works well in this motor!

So went on Rock Auto
OEM Motorcraft Synchro DA2089
OEM Motorcraft Wires # WR5996
OEM Motorcraft Double Platinum SP432 Plugs
plus a discount code... total=$159.62

All set, parts on the way!

Thanks. I got the coil pack but still waiting for the wires and plugs. I'll make an update when I get all the parts and install them.

I got the coil pack, wires & plugs (all legit new motorcraft) and replaced them but it still ran poorly and in fact ran poorer, for example, it was still missing, but on a different cylinder. It also misfired, backfired and stalled when I pushed the clutch IN! So I put the original plugs back in and it ran even poorer. It missed and misfired at a "hunting" idle...if thats the right term...then I put the original wires back on and bingo! Better than ever...why is the coil pack the only new thing that worked correctly? I know I did everything right. I even gapped the plugs to .042-.046 like it says to...

The plugs are double platinum btw...

Did you mix up the wire order? You could very possibly have had a defective wire set, or broke a connection on one of the wires pulling it on or off the plug.

You're also not supposed to have to gap double platinum plugs due to the fragility of the electrode.

As for the hunting and bad idle, you may want to check your IAC, especially if it stalled when you pushed the clutch in.

There are few different 3.0 firing orders floating around the internet as well as the firing order in the Haynes manual, its wrong. I had the same problem will trying to figure out my misfire. When I put the wires back on I went by the firing order in the Haynes manual it made it run worse checked google and there were like 3 different ones...

When you changes the wires and coil did you pull them all off or did you do them 1 at a time??

I'm betting you the firing order is wrong

Like I said, I did everything right. I got the coil pack firing order from the coil pack. And I know I routed the wires from the right terminals to the right cylinders. I didn't gap the plugs before I did and it made no performance difference either way. It says on the box to gap before installation. And my iac and maf are fine. It only idled like that the one time...

The reason why it stalled is because the plugs weren't fully exploding the fuel and it just flooded out and died. Took like 10-15 secs of cranking to start it back up.

.....ok.....

You said when the original wires were reinstalled, it ran fine. That tells me it's not the plugs. Sounds like a bad wire or bad connection between the pack and the plug. Some people also noticed crap in the coil connector or the connection there was loose. Finagling may have fixed that and it was simply a cowinkiedink. But hey, if it's running fine, leave it be.

Yeah, don't fix it if it ain't broke huh? The reason why I did this in the first place is because after a good rain and some rain/fog driving and mudding, the coil pack terminal for cylinder 4 quit on me. So I had a 2.5L V5. So I figured I might as well replace the entire ignition system while im at it. And now its got the original plugs and wires and a new coil pack. So only 28 of my 70 bucks was used...
