3.0 engine swap 06 into an 01

hey guys a few months ago my 01 3.0 blew (cam synch)
i have been looking around for a replacement and i have found a 3.0 from an 06 for a really good deal.
i need to know if all the harnesses and everything will plug and play exactly like the 01?
i know it is the very same engine but i dont want to get screwed by something not plugging in or something.

Get a 4.0 IF you can,

No i dont plan to do a 4.0. then i would have to swap the ecu etc.

Wiring is the same, but your 2001 will have an engine tune expecting the EGR valve to be there. The 2006 engine will not have an EGR valve and will have a different plenum, so you'll need to swap over your upper intake from the 2001 with the EGR valve and tube (and the left header) so you won't throw a code. Everything else should be plug and play.

What years would have the egr and everything? So i would need to replace the exhaust manifold too? That wouldnt be fun

2001 and below have EGR. There were some models in the 90's that didn't have EGR either, but all 3.0's 2002 and up do not have EGR. You would need the driver side manifold that has the fitting for the EGR tube, the EGR tube itself, and an EGR capable manifold from either your old truck or a Taurus. Basically you can use the block and heads, but the upper manifold will need to be swapped to an EGR manifold.

If you're pulling and swapping the engine, the exhaust manifold and upper intake manifold are the least of your worries.

Ok so the 06 fell through. Fou d one out of a 2000 with lower miles from a wrecker. 99 -'00 are the ideal years for my truck correct?

Also, if the 2000 3.0 works out, will my transmission from the 01 bolt up and work fine on the '00 motor?
