Have a 2006 ranger with the 3.0 it has 162000 miles on it. Replaced coil pack and wires and had valves cleaned. On my way home from school I noticed my truck sounded funny. I got home put it in neutral and when I was trying to rev it it wouldn't go over 3k rpm and when I let off it idles horribly. When I look under the good I can hear a taping noise and it doesn't even sound like it's running. Anybody else have a problem like this? I cleaned my o2 sensor and my air box and it didn't help

the neutral bit is normal if you have an auto..they have a limiter there

take the temperature of the cat compared to the rest of the exhaust

What's do you mean? Like headers and then cat or muffler then cat?

measure the inlet pipe to the cat then the cat itself and the outlet pipe...if the cat is significantly higher then it is clogged up

Are you sure you cleaned the O2 sensor, or was it the MAF sensor ? Also what about cleaning the airbox ? Do you mean you changed the air filter ?
