Question truck jolted hard on highway followed by serious problems

I downshifted to fourth gear to accelerate on an on ramp and my truck immediately jolted hard. After that when I pressed the gas pedal I felt a rough lagging and deceleration. The air conditioner went out at the same time too. The only way I could get my truck to drive, I noticed, was to slightly press in the clutch while I pressed the gas pedal down. This still only got my truck to just barely accelerate enough to get somewhere safe to stop. When I found somewhere, the rpms where sporadically increasing and decreasing around 2500 until finally settling down around 1000. My truck is a 2001, 2 wheel drive, 3.0L, manual. Please if anyone knows what this could be, help me out...thanks.

The check engine light is not on and all gauges read normally. I'm also very confused about it too. The a/c is working again now...I know it was blowing warm when it happened, usually it's very cold but it was very hot out and I had started the truck just minutes before. It usually gets cold in seconds though. Anyway, I went to auto zone for advice, the worker checked for any codes to pop up and there was nothing. The drive there, I could only go about thirty but the worker, nice enough to take it for a test drive, found nothing. It just magically started driving fine again. He did say it felt like it was miss firing. I replaced the plugs with Iridium plugs and also replaced the spark plug cables...so maybe the coil? Other than that, I have no clue if this is going to happen again or how to troubleshoot this. Thanks again for any advice.

You will probably be taking those plugs back out and reinstalling Motorcraft OEM platinum soon.

You won't have to change your plugs. There is a thought that the oem plugs run better but you will be fine.
As for the problem; random cluster of symptoms. I know the throttle position sensor will make your revs flux. As for the weird clutch position; check your clutch fluid. I don't want to steer you wrong but I hope it isn't your master cylinder.

Good luck man and keep us posted

The plug issue is not just a thought. It is years of experience with these motors X alot of 3.0 owners. I have used all brands and styles of plugs in these 3.0's except Autolite, which they say is same as Motorcraft.

I'll check the clutch fluid, the throttle position sensor, and look into the plugs thing and write back on here how all that worked out.

I installed a new coil and a throttle position sensor and it seems to be running now
