Sounds like it loses time somehow but not sure how that would explain the gas odor. With over 200000 miles, I sure would replace the cam sync, and alot of other things.

I'd start with a cam sync for now and then start looking at other parts

Cam position sensor, drive belt, coil pack, plug wires, hoses, flush & fill, etc etc ... With that many miles I could go on and on unless the previous owner kept records of what he/she replaced/repaired. Have you looked at the air filter ? Run any good fuel system cleaner/water remover thru it ?

Flashing CEL means you have a severe misfire and that driving should be minimzed or better yet, discontinued until the cause is found and fixed. Continued driving with all that unburnt fuel dumped into the converters will overheat and destroy them. Or maybe it's been driven with this problem for so long, that's already happened.

To fix this, begin with a visual under the hood, finding and correcting obvious issues. Follow up with pulling the DTCs and correct them.

Need proof it's a misfire problem (above and beyond the flashing CELl)? Your posts say it all...

Compression test will tell a lot. If that comes back good, plugs, wires, coil pack, cam sync, and check your gas tank fill hose. It likes to crack and rot out.
