Default Intake manifold coolant fitting leak.

Sorry to bring this problem up again. The tubing fitting is cracked and corroded. I've seen people by-pass the manifold coolant loop, or try and thread tap a new fitting into it. What is anyones good way of fixing this leak? Tapping cast aluminum can be questionable 14 year old intake.

It doesn't seem to be corroded or cracked towards the bottom. I'd attempt to cut it off right below the bend, flare it out a bit, then put the hose and a hose clamp (screw in type) on it. If it still leaks, it may be coming from the fitting itself. If so, cut it, drill it, plug it. I'd take the manifold off for that though. You don't want those metal shavings in there.

My truck is a 1999 XLT 3.0, same as in the OP. Had the same problem but one of my lines became sheared at the connector to the plate. Because the part is no longer available except in salvage, my mechanic did the workaround. He closed up the holes, and rerouted the lines to the side. Have no idea how long it is going to hold. Just got the truck back today, got it on the expressway and had no problems. Hah, even the ABS lamp finally turned off.

Any ideas on how to clean up the mess is appreciated. Anyone who happens to have that intake manifold for sale from the same model, I would be interested in hearing from you, in case this mod doesn't hold.

Cheers.

I agree with kevin, take the manifold off and try to tap the hole if clamping a piece of rubber tubing on doesn't work. (a little indian head shellac will help seal the hose to the pipe)

That, or duct tape.

I'd drill and tap that out, insert a nipple + barbed fitting + clamp, zip it up and call it a day. To cover my bases before work began, I'd locate a new manifold in a JY just in case. That heated passage is there for good reason, as in, it's to keep the region around the butterfly valve warm and to stop it from icing and freezing (ie, stuck throttle, always a thrill!).
