Engine cut off? HELP!
I have a 2004 XLT 6 cylinder 3.0 it barely just broke 106,000 miles.
The original issue started with a simple battery change. After the old battery was replaced with a new one, the following weekend after sitting in some minor traffic and idling the truck just turned off all the lights on the dash flashed before it shut off and wouldn't turn back over. I got a tow home and the AAA guy advised me it could be a few things, he checked the fuses, fuel pump switch, and told me it was probably the fuel pump. So I replaced the fuel pump and the truck wouldn't start because a fuse blew. (was a 20 amp fuse under the hood manual says its a fuel pump fuse) after the fuse was replaced the truck started just fine.
Two weeks later leaving Vegas back to California (also after sitting in traffic for 2 hours) the truck did the same thing going up the baker grade. I pulled over on the side of the road turned the air and rolled all the windows down then tried to start the truck again and it fired right up. Thought it was very odd because the temperature gauge was normal. I was advised after asking around that the truck may have just been going into limp mode? I made it back had no issues driving around town.
Until yesterday, was not in traffic but back in the Vegas heat and the truck lost power and died again. got it off to the side of the road and un screwed the gas cap thinking it may have vapor locked but no pressure was released. I looked in the glove box and saw the extra fuses, replaced the same fuel pump fuse since the truck was not turning over and sure enough after it fired right up and ran perfectly normal the rest of the day. I changed the fuel filter also.
Today going up hill the truck started to die out while pressing the gas pedal it had no pressure. so I put the truck into neutral and coasted to the side. truck remained running after words..
was wondering what it could be??? Electrical?
The truck is well maintained, I never miss a oil change etc. no lights are on and it just passed smog.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!
