Default Gas Smell

Well, been a couple of months of trouble free running of my sons Ranger. Last week, he said shortly after filling up, there was a strong gas smell inside the truck. I had noticed it myself a couple of weeks earlier after driving it and putting like 15 gallons in it myself. He also mentioned last week, he gunned it a little to pass a car, and noticed it then as well, and it went away shortly after passing the car. No leaks were found. This morning, he calls and says the CEL is on, and I will pull the codes if not this afternoon, tomorrow morning. My assumption....something in the evap system? If so, will that set off codes, and if so which ones? As always, thanks!

Evap system will set off codes, but I don't remember which ones.

It might. It acts kind of like the gas cap not sealing, so it would probably be an evap code.

My appolgies for not following up sooner. Code was for the thermostat, again. Son found a vacuum line off, so he hooked it back up, but I don't know that it was the problem yet, and as little as we smell it, Im not too worried about it now. Ill have to pick up a tstat today and get it in. The other was one of those junk failsafe, but at the time I had no choice but to use it.

That's what I wanted, but NOONE around had one in stock, Ford Parts around are closed on Saturdays, and I have to have this truck operational Monday. I cant afford for it to sit while I wait on it to be shipped to me.
