Why waste your time with the 3.0? If you're doing the work to swap a motor, make it worth our time and effort by doing a 4.0. It may cost a bit more initially, but the added power and benefits of the bigger motor will make you happy.

What motor do you have now? I can't see your signature if you have one, I'm on the frf app.

The 2.9l v6 and the 4.0 are the same block. A swap to a 4.0 OHV will be all bolt on with no modification or transmission swap needed. A lot of the wiring should swap over. You "can" run on the 2.9's computer, or grab the one from the 4.0 donor if you can.

4.0 is the same bell as 2.9l but wiring no matter what you swap in is going to need addressed. 4.0 is wider and taller, so obviously exhaust will need a game plan.

Id also suggest going with the overhead valve those can be had in OBD1 format which is what your 2.9l is it won't be as powerful as the SOHC which is OBD2 but switching to OBD2 can be a nightmare if you don't get all the sensors and things wired up and it will still be a very nice power increase from the 2.9l. But it comes down to what your comfortable with as far as modifying it to work. Do a little digging on the conversion there are lots of google articles on it and see if its something you can handle.
