Yes, you can trick it. You can also swallow drain-o. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

In aviation, fuel mixture is done based on cylinder head temperature or exhaust gas temperature (depending on which sensor you have) or RPM / sound). There is a mixture lever next to the throttle. You bring the mixture back (leaning) until you are at peak CHT or EGT. In the absence of an EGT or CHT sensor, you lean it back until you see or hear an RPM drop, then push it back up a hair.

Running lean of peak is dangerous territory and you do not go there. That is of course unless you don't care about burning away your spark plugs, piston rings, and cracking cylinders.

We also track EGT's for tuning, but WAY too much damage has been done before you see that going up. That's why I love wideband oxygen sensors and I refuse to tune anything without them.

ok wierd thing, my bro and i have same motor and same gears etc... i get about 22 and he only gets like 13! wierd stuff, its probably cuz he has 5 speed, or at least im guessing that. just thought i should put that out there =P

it could be how well his/your truck runs, or how and where you drive.

Yeah no O2 sensors on aircraft engines. Pretty much everything is based off EGT and CHT, even in the most fancy high-end piston engines. Fuel injection is still one the more recent innovations....
