10 mpg??
I calculated it, I have a 16 gallon tank, and get 80 Miles to half a tank, so that would mean 160 miles to a full tank. Thats horrible. I never let the engine rev past 4000 RPM when I shift. Anyone know what the problem could be?. 1998 ranger 3.0 V6. If anyone knows what it could be feel free to text me with any questions. 570-898-6485.
Thanks

Re: 10 mpg??
Change the following;?
4x4 tires to street toyos
your airfilter to a K&N or something that actually flows
a new fuel filter
change your oil to syntec possibly? It seems weird but I think it makes a difference.
Do you wheel it even though the 4x4 doesn't work? Because I know that the computer calculates wheelin' in with regular driving and can create quite irresponsible fuel economy in exchange for a little more power on the get go>?

Re: 10 mpg??
1. It's a 3.0, so not the most efficient.
2. You rev it to 4000 rpm before you shift? there's a big problem right there.
3. Larger tires will kill your mileage, as well as throw off you speedometer readings, making your calculations incorrect.
4. Your method of determining mileage is faulty. Run a full tank of gas through the truck, recording miles driven, then fill the truck back up to full, and record how much fuel you actually used, and do your calculations from that. While you may have a 16 gallon tank, you hit E on the gauge before you run out of gas, so you never really use all 16 gallons.
All that said, I agree, your mileage is kinda low. When's the last time you changed the O2 sensors? Cleaned the MAF? Changed the plugs/wires? Cleaned the injectors? Changed the oil? Greased your bearings? Checked tire pressure?

Re: 10 mpg??
Yes Johnbaum I believe there is a 2 gallon reserve tank, and his speedo might even be off?

Re: 10 mpg??
Small things make a big difference. A plugged PCV valve can be a mpg killer. Plugs and wires make a difference too if they are old or faulty. A clogged air filter will cause the engine to run rich and burn more fuel. Tire pressure makes a difference, do you keep up on them? Add them all together and it can make a huge difference.

Change the fuel filter might be in order, also check your temp gauge, the coolant temp sensor can cause it to overfuel. Also what are your driving conditions? You might just need a Mexican tune up. (no offense to anyone that is Mexican) Just get on the free way for 30 minutes to an hour. A lot of city driving will cause your plugs to foul, as well as short trips. I run a lot of short trips because the town I am in is small, so every week I make a run out of town just a 30 minute drive or so, crank the tunes and enjoy the ride.

Re: 10 mpg??
Fogot to mention that your fuel injectors might be sputtering. Try throwing a bottle of fuel system cleaner in the tank before refueling and run it to dang near empty a time or two. Chevron Techron cleaner is the best out ther for that. Pick up the bigger bottle for 20 some gallon tanks.

Re: 10 mpg??
I dont shift at 4,000 Rpm's lol. I meant that I never let the engine rev over 4,000. I usually shift at 2000-2500 rpm. I have new plugs and wires a new MAF sensor, new throttle body sensor a new o2 sensor (not sure which one cause i think theres a couple of them). I did put a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in and it seems to do better, but not as it should, so Im gonna try another bottle of that. also I do have a new fuel filter. Air filter is next to come.

Re: 10 mpg??
Well you've had to replace the engine where did you get it and how long did it sit that right there it most Likely your problem don't expect anything to run like it should if it's not the original and who knows how the prev owners treated that engine I say take in to a machine shop let them give a good tune up and go from there.
