Default wierd little idle issue

this might be a little hard to explain on here...but ill go for it. i have a 3.0L flexfuel that runs fine when warmed up, and in D idles around 1000. if its all warmed up and i go to, say a gas station and pump gas for two minutes, it starts right up. but when i put it in D then, the idle goes to around 700 and its kinda rough, and when i first take off its not very strong but after a couple seconds, its fine. any ideas what that is?

I have been having a similar problem but the exact opposite LOL. When I pull into say a parking spot and throw it in P the RPM will drop and hesitate even turning the truck off sometimes. It doesn't happen all the time but it does happen. Just thought that maybe our problems are related somehow and maybe somebody knows whats up.

I just rolled 50k on mine and the plugs are stock so I'm thinking it may be time to change them out anyway and see if changes anything.

Hello,

I have a 2002 ranger XLT 4x4 (110K miles), I have been having this idle problem as well and it seems to be getting worse, recently (in the past month) I discovered a vac leak replaced the rubber elbow piece (in oem vac kit #6758) noticed alot of degraded rubber fall out of the old elbow when i too it off. Could some debries from the old vac rubber elbow have anything to do with this issue? As you can probably tell I am no mechanic. Does this give anyone any ideas?? I'm out for now.

Maybe idle air control? Try cleaning or lightly tapping with a hammer that's what I did to mine one day I had it running in my driveway and the idle was very high like it was stuck open and I tapped it with a hammer all around the housing and it went away. Should probably replace mine since they are only like $40 but works fine now. Try searching threads for "idle air control" and see if the symptoms match up.
